General Manager for Burkwood Swim and Racquet Club

Burkwood Swim and Racquet Club (Burkwood), located in Mechanicsville, VA just outside Richmond, is a year-round aquatic, fitness, and tennis facility whose objective is to provide outstanding facilities and services for the use, benefit, and enjoyment of our members and their guests.

Position Summary


The General Manager reports to the Burkwood Swim and Racquet Club Board of Directors and oversees the day-to-day management of the Club, its facilities, and operations. The GM works closely with the Board to ensure that the Club’s Mission, to provide outstanding facilities in a club environment for the use, benefit, and enjoyment of our members and guests, is fulfilled. This role ensures a high level of customer satisfaction and drives the Club’s business performance. The GM position manages all Clubs facilities, programming, and financial health. Duties include management of the Club’s program and teaching staff, ensuring membership retention, achieving revenue goals, and promoting the overall vision and mission of the Burkwood Swim & Racquet Club (Club).
The ideal candidate will be a dynamic and strategic leader with exceptional customer service skills and strong business acumen. This team player will collaborate effectively with the Club’s Board of Directors and instructional staff to optimize Member satisfaction and advance the Club’s mission.

Position Responsibilities

· Oversee the daily operations of the Club, ensuring that its facilities are well-maintained and meeting Member needs
· Develop and implement policies and procedures for Club employees, service and safety of facilities and equipment, and Club resources.
· Drive a positive and engaging culture for employees and Members
· Support the Club’s mission, demonstrating commitment to fitness and helping members and guests meet their fitness goals
· Manage all Club employees
· Direct and oversee Club programs and events, ensuring that these efforts create a positive member experience and help the Club recruit/retain members
· Provides oversight of the Club’s finances, making recommendations that help move strategic goals forward
· Serves as an ambassador for the Club, both onsite and in the greater community.
· Collaborates effectively with the Board, employee, members, and outside organizations to enhance the Club’s reputation.

Preferred Qualifications

· Bachelor’s Degree in Hospitality Management, Sports Management, Business Administration or related field
· Demonstrated experience in a managerial role
· Experience working in a Recreational or Sports facility
· CPR/First Aid certification (or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire)
· Experience in aquatics or racquet sports management
· Familiarity with Club management software preferred

Must be able to pass post-offer pre-employment background checks (i.e. criminal history, financial history, etc.)
